One More Thing, Then I'll Drop It
I've attempted to engage several friends and acquaintances today, seeking to gauge their interest/disinterest with the whole GM/Chrysler/Gov't fiasco. While I am extremely angered by what is obvious (at least to me) to be an unconstitutional move by the Obama administration to take over GM, most of the people I have spoken to don't seem to give a pinto's exploding patootie.
However... Just do me one favor and carefully look at what President Goodwrench is saying here: "I am absolutely committed to working with Congress and the auto companies to meet one goal: The United States of America will lead the world in building the next generation of clean cars," Obama said in his first extended remarks on the industry since taking office nearly 10 weeks ago. And yet, he added, "our auto industry is not moving in the right direction fast enough to succeed." Ok - He's committed to working with Congress (first) and the auto companies (second)- note that he said "companies" - plural. I wonder what he has in mind for Ford? And then he explains why - so that the US of A will lead the world in building the next generation of "clean cars." What the heck does that mean? cars that wash themselves? GM already has more vehicles that get over 30MPG than any other automaker. And, keep in mind, that when Ford, GM and Chrysler have to show their fleet MPG averages, they have to include the big SUVs and pickups that we Americans use daily to get things done. The Germans and Japanese produce very few pick up trucks as there's no demand for them and most of the SUVs they make get sent over here... but I digress. He concludes by saying our auto industry isn't moving in the right direction fast enough. So what's his solution? Fire all the people who at least have some experience with running a car company and replace them with people who have never even run a kool-aid stand.'Nuff said. But I would love to be a fly on the wall at Lee Iococca's house right about now. He has got to be out of his freakin' mind livid! It's a sad day for the good ole' US of A.
