Texas Mom Makes Carville Look Like... Carville
Over the weekend, On CNN's "State Of The Union" with John King, Democratic Strategist James Carville and Conservative radio host Bill Bennet took sides on last week's Tea Parties and remarks made by David Axelrod. Carville, whose typical strategy is to say the exact opposite than is expected, was right on his game in saying that "Most Democrats are delighted with this—if anything it was harmless and somewhat damaging to Republicans."
He also took a cheap shot at seniors and veterans by saying that "the average age at these things must have 72.4, they had every old crank in the country out there." As you watch this video from CNN, note how Carville's nervous and jerky body language and sarcastic defensive remarks illustrate his total uncomfortableness of the moment. He has no facts to back up what he is saying, so all he can do is spew a bunch of crap and hope that some of it sticks. Meanwhile, Bennet remains cool and calm. You can do that when the facts are on your side. Our second video clip is of Katrina Pierson speaking at the Tax Day Tea party in Dallas. Now, I ask you, is this the face of 72.4 year old crank? Final Score: Katrina-1, Carville-nothing.
In a related story, in an apparent response to last Wednesday's Tea Parties, Obama has given his Cabinet 3 months to identify areas where $100 million can be saved over time. Over time? How long is that?, and how much effect will this have? Not much. Considering that the costs to borrow the money for February's stimulus package will on average almost $100 million a day (over the next decade). If he was really serious about saving money, then push to repeal Tarp 2 and come up with a stimulus bill that is actually stimulating. For the most part, the examples of economizing given by Obama were not the program cuts that people feel, and that budget-watchers label as essential, to make a meaningful difference in the reducing the deficit. They were more of the, "what can I do that's fast and easy so I can get these protestors to shut up," variety. For example, The Agriculture Department will move 1,500 employees from seven leased locations into one place in early 2011, saving $62 million over 15 years. It was also a way for the POTUS to divert attention away from his recent visit to latin America and get the press talking about something other than the Ortega handshake.
