Why So Defensive?

With typical sarcastic arrogance and disdain for any American who sees things differently, President Obama celebrated his 100th day in office by attacking those of us who supported and attended that Tea Parties on April 15th. Speaking at a Town Hall meeting in Denver, the POTUS said, "Those of you who are watching certain news channels on which I'm not very popular, and you see folks waving tea bags around, let me just remind them that I am happy to have a serious conversation about how we are going to cut our health care costs down over the long term, how we are going to stabilize Social Security. But, let's not play games and pretend that the reason [for the deficit] is because of the Recovery Act."

First of all, there weren't a bunch of people "waving tea bags around," and he knows it. He just said that to make us look like ignorant fools (the same to you, sir). Secondly, there were people carrying signs and signing petitions that were sent to him and other members of congress. So infact, the conversation he requested has begun. We're just waiting for a reply. Thirdly, the Tea parties were not about him (why does everything always have to be about him?). They were about... well, if you are reading this, you know what they were about.

That “certain news channel” is, of course, Fox News, the only channel that hasn’t fallen in line with Obama’s marching orders to always and faithfully portray him in the best possible light, regardless of the situation. To Obama, Fox News is as big, if not a bigger, thorn in his heel as Rush Limbaugh. Among cable news channels, Fox's ratings are soaring. The "other side of the story" is getting out 24/7, and people are starting to listen. That's NOT good ews for the administartion.

On a recent 2500 mile road trip for business, I spent 11 nights in a total of 7 hotels. Every morning, I’d drag myself out of bed and down to the fitness room for a little (the operative term) exercise. If the TV in the fitness room was on (and it usually was), it was tuned to Fox News. The same was true of the TV in the area where they served the continental breakfast. I’m not suggesting that everyone in eyesight of the TV was a big fan of Fox news, but someone had to put it on that channel, and no one was sprinting over to change it.

Dale Carnegie once said, “No one kicks a dead horse.” His meaning was pretty clear: if you and your opinions have no value, if they are not based in truth, they are of no consequence and no one will care what you say. Apparently the POTUS has some real concerns over how Fox portrays him because that portrayal may just have elements of truth that could be damaging to his approval ratings.

So, while the other network anchors continue to show up for work in their cheerleading outfits, it’s a good thing that we still have a free press in this country that allows all sides to be heard. Toward the end of the Bush years, Hilliarious Clinton adamantly proclaimed, “I am sick and tired of people who say that if you debate and you disagree with this administration, somehow you’re not patriotic. And we should stand up and say we are Americans, and we have a right to debate and disagree with any administration!”

You go girl, oh, and I hope that Secretary of State thing works out, ‘cuz we really don’t want you back here in NY (Unless you want to be Governor—we can’t do any worse and a cat fight between you and Obama over state’s rights would be great entertainment). But the fact is, she is right. It's probably the most intelligent thing she ever said. Except now, it tirns out the true patriots are conservatives, republicans, and a growing number of democrats opposing THIS administration. Well, they wanted change. -r
